Training tips & inspiration for all stressed dogs.

I know you’ve been there, right? I even have a family member that has zero interest in dogs, giving me opinions about my training. It’s draining and frustrating.

Maybe you have a friend that just steals your energy, or a neighbour that just complains all the time?

If you recognise any of this you need to listen to this podcast episode from Jay Shetty that I recently heard. It goes through the 4 different types of negative people and how to deal with them.

Here are the 4 types Jay talks about and where we see them in the dog world:

🗣️ “The venter” – Someone that LOVES to complain about their own life, their dog or anyone around them. Never asks you how you are, but lays all their troubles on you. This is typically seen in the chatty neighbour.

😢 “The victim” – The person that thinks the world is out to get them. Everything is wrong and it’s everyone around them that has an issue. They blame all other dog owners for what their dog is doing.

🥸 “The vicious type” – This is not common but can be seen on the news when someone hides nails or poison in meatballs for dogs to eat.

🤬 ”The violent person” – This is the person who will shout at you and maybe even try to kick your dog for barking at them.

The three ways to deal with them (and remember it’s not about you it’s about them!):

🚫 For most of these, distance is best. Especially the last two. Avoid them and don’t even try to talk to these people. There is no point.

3️⃣ If you can’t avoid them, have a 1 to 3 ratio of negative people to positive people in your life.

🕣 Reduce the time you spend with them! You don’t need to stay and talk to your negative neighbour every day and a 5 min convo is enough.

❌ Stop solving their problem! With the venter, the don’t want solutions so why give it to them?

I hope these quick tips will help you handle negative people and stay strong when you feel outside pressure. Please listen to Jay’s podcast for more insight.
